Samadhi (Samadhi Retreat Centre, charity number 1207744) is a non-sectarian UK charity led by co-founders David (Dorje Gyalpo) and Manu Oromith. It states its aim as introducing people to meditation, mindfulness and Buddhism and helping them integrate those practices into daily life, combining David's work in meditation and Buddhist psychology with Manu's in yoga and environmental relationship. It took over operations from The Contemplative Consciousness Network (CCN). The main offering is in-person residential retreats in the UK alongside online classes and retreats. Retreats run from day retreats up to 4, 5 and 7-day programmes covering meditation and yoga, silent vipashyana (insight) practice, and Buddhist mind training. Named venues include The Vedanta at Branston near Lincoln, the Centre for Alternative Technology at Machynlleth in Mid Wales, Sharpham House at Totnes in Devon, the National Botanic Garden of Wales at Llanarthne, and Jamyang London Buddhist Centre. Teaching centres on training in shamatha (tranquillity) and vipashyana (insight) meditation, drawing on Buddhist tradition, contemplative practice, neuroscience and Western psychology. Lama B. Alan Wallace is spiritual patron and has authorised David Oromith to teach. Samadhi describes itself as an LGBTQ-led, LGBTQ+ and BIPOC-friendly organisation, welcoming all levels of experience, and is fundraising for a planned self-sustainable eco retreat centre.
